The “Saint Petersburg National State University of Physical Education, Sports and Health Named after P. F. Lesgaft” is one of the oldest physical training educational institutions in the world founded in 1896 by the distinguished scientist Piotr Frantsovitch Lesgaft. Today, Lesgaft University is one the leading educational institutions in Russia that has all the State Accreditation Acts. By the research and pedagogical qualifications the faculty of the university occupies top positions in the country. All the university activities are constantly managed by the rector. The university complies the following departments: the pedagogical department, the coach department, the department of adaptive physical training, the managerial economics and law department, individual educational and sports technologies, research and pedagogical staff preparation (postgraduate studies), the department of pre-university studies, the professional and pedagogical internship department and extramural pedagogical and coach departments. Further training and retraining center of our university has been successfully functioning for quite a long time as well. The academic activity is performed in well-equipped classrooms, laboratories and sports gyms being constantly improved. The main Republic Scientific-methods Library of Physical Training and Sports encourages the successful academic activity of the university. The internal university system providing educational quality on the basis of the typical model of the qualitative system is being worked up now. The Research work of the university incorporates the whole range of questions in the sphere of intentional human motive activity. Approved research schools on different specialties have been formed at the university. The State Research Institution of Social-Economic Problems and Recreative Sports Technologies functions at the University. Theses are defended to the academic boards of the university. Sports activity is performed under control of well-qualified coaches. The results of such work are multiple victories in the Olympic Games, victories of World and Europe Championships The High Basketball School for Coaches as well as the High Hockey School for Coaches function within the University. University International relations are well-engrained. Long-term cooperation with foreign and former Soviet Union higher educational institutions is established. Character-building work is an integral part of all the university activities. The university internal newspaper is issued.
